ty.net/sessionPop.cfm?confid=133&proposalid=12871\nData Ownership is hard.
There are thousands of books and articles and conference presentations&nbsp
;attesting to this. And here's yet another presentation to add to the l
ist.\nA main impediment is the fact that "Owner" is such a l
oaded word that immediately leads to conscious and subconscious resistance.
There is no point in denying that the accountabilities of a "Data Own
er" are hard and serious – and increasingly so in regu
lated industries.\nThis session draws on the presenter's practical expe
rience of implementing Data Governance across a variety of organizations&nb
sp;to offer recommendations on how to formally define what is mea
nt by "Data Owner" and how to influence assignees to willing
ly embrace it.\nWe will discuss:\n\n
Defining the role, the organizational position, and the hard acco
untabilities of a Data Owner\n
Defining the network and the hard responsibilities of others in suppor
t of a Data Owner\n
Demolishing any cultural backdrop of Business versus IT (Aaaargh!!!!)\n
Using some techniques from psychology to help "Data Owners"&
nbsp;embrace the role – e.g. cognitive dissonance (to bridg
e resistance gap), public commitment (to cement private commitment), self-i
nterest (to ultimately reduce personal risk and derive personal benefit), r
eciprocation (across Data Owners)\n\nEffective Data Ownership is manda
tory, but clearly hasn't and won't happen by accident. We have to i
mprove how we TELL the Data Ownership story, and SELL the Data Owner r
ole.\n
