COVID-19 Speaker Updates

Updated on October 27th, 2020

Dear Conference Speakers,

Following the announcement for the 2021 Enterprise Data World (EDW) Call for Presentations, we began to receive a lot of questions about how we intend to handle COVID-19 and its potential impact, so here is our current plan.

Honestly, even as we approach the critical event planning stage, we're unsure if we will be able to run a traditional "in-person" EDW conference in 2021. No one in the events business can know for sure, as it depends on many factors coming together, including vaccine progress, CDC guidance, government regulations on group meetings and gatherings, corporate travel policies, etc. The list is quite long. Therefore, to account for this uncertainty, we are currently planning to ensure the event is a success no matter how these factors play out. This means that if the in-person event becomes feasible, then we will conduct EDW as a hybrid face-to-face/digital conference, but if in-person is not possible, then it will be an all-digital program.

Here's how this relates to our Call for Presentation and official speaker acceptance process:

If you would like to speak at EDW but aren’t sure yet if you will be able to attend in person or if you will be permitted by your company to travel, then we encourage you to go ahead and submit your speaking proposal before October 9th, 2020.

To facilitate planning the event, we are asking that you respond to some questions during the presentation submission process, to indicate if you are willing to present remotely and/or in-person, and when you anticipate that your organization may provide approval.

Of course, we will be in close contact with all speakers during the next few weeks and months to let you know about the status of your submission, the in-person event, and the available presentation options. If you are officially invited to speak on the program but ultimately end up unable to attend, then we will discuss all the options with you to determine how best to proceed.

The bottom line is this… no matter what happens over the coming months, we will remain flexible and do encourage you to reach out to us with any questions or changes to your proposal to speak.

Thanks, everyone, and stay safe!
